We are less tha than two weeks away from driving out of Texas with all of our belongings in tow. You can imagine how hectic things are right now. Packing with little ones is not my most favorite activity…which is why I’m leaving for Breckenridge!
Ok so that’s not entirely true. This trip has been scheduled for a long time and I just refused to cancel it. Sorry Jesse.
For the second year running I’ll be heading to Breckenridge, Colorado to do a little snowboarding with the United States Association of Blind Athletes. We will spent two full days on the slopes and a third day learning the ins and outs of the biathlon.
Since I grew up snowboarding I was really hesitant to try this out last year. I was pretty good on a board before I left my sight in Afghanistan and I thought that doing it blind would be slower and I just wouldn’t enjoy it.
Fortunately I was completely wrong! I loved every minute of it and as soon as I got the invitation to come back this year I signed up! I’m going to go pro I’ve decided.
You can check out last year’s video on the “About Me” page to get an idea of how snowboarding without vision works. Basically someone just yells left or right at me while we cruise down the mountain.
I’ll be taking lots of random pictures so if you want to see those ahead of the blog posts then make sure to follow me on Instagram and Twitter. I’ll be using #BlindGuyPics so you’ll know where to look. I’ll try to get them all on Facebook too but since it usually doesn’t play well with my screen reader that might not happen. Instagram and Twitter is where it’s at!
Just to be clear, I’m shirking no duties. Most of the house, excluding the last minute things we’re still using, has already been packed up. I’ve been doing work the last few weeks so I wouldn’t be leaving Jesse alone with an entire house to pack.
Thank you all for reading, commenting, and sharing these posts! I especially want to thank all of you who have shown us your support about our recent decision to move. We love you guys!
